Quick start setup guide

Here’s a handy reference for setting up your mahjong table and drawing tiles before the hand begins. It’s very easy to get confused about what direction to count around the table versus what direction to take tiles. The diagram below should help clear this up — without having to phone a friend.

Reminders:

  • “tuck in” the right-hand side of each wall to create an “inner corner”

  • the same number (aka dice roll count) is used to count around the table to establish which wall to start on, and to count that number “in” from the inner corner of that wall (right to left)

*Note: This is a table setup without including the flower tiles. Including the flower tiles = 18 tiles per wall, double stacked. In addition, if your family uses three dice, continue the dice roll count counter-clockwise up to 18.
